Civil Society and Institutional Strengthening

Community-based organizations (CBOs) in PNG consistently highlight a lack of financial and management literacy as one of their main challenges. Therefore, Cardno and the LGP team commit to working with several CBOs in the target sites to enable the effective development and management of community-based resource management projects.

LGP will provide guidance for CBOs on how to register as organizations and develop projects that align with national and provincial policies and conservation goals. The project will share resources to support institutional strengthening, such as tools for identifying needs and capacity gaps. The grants team will conduct capacity assessments for these CBOs and potential grantees, as well as design a tailored capacity-strengthening curriculum to build skills in areas such as project management, administration, reporting, budget management, and fundraising.
