Gender
What We Do
LGP receives a supplement of US$3 million under the W-GDP Initiative, which brings women’s economic empowerment to the forefront of the U.S. Government’s development agenda. The same USAID Philippines program and cooperative agreement with Cardno will manage these funds.
W-GDP aims “to enhance the opportunity for women to participate in, contribute to, and benefit meaningfully and equitably from economic opportunities as individuals, parents, workers, consumers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and investors.” In PNG, these objectives translate to strengthening women’s economic empowerment across the value chain of women in the economy—from female farmers in rural PNG, to female entrepreneurs developing new businesses, to women as employees in the formal sector.
With W-GDP’s support, LGP serves as a platform for site teams, resources, relationships, and outreach. The project will scale up existing initiatives in gender programming to enable its partners to expand their activities and reach more women across the country. It will take a family-centered approach and show high-visibility results that will enable national and international stakeholders to see women’s empowerment in PNG.
