The USAID Papua New Guinea  Lukautim Graun Program ( USAID PNG LGP), in partnership with Kumul Organics, successfully conducted a three-day Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) training in Tokain 2, Yadigam village, Sumkar District, Madang Province, from October 23-25, 2024. This initiative brought together 25 participants, including community-based organizations (CBOs) from Raicoast, Middle Ramu, and Sumkar districts, as well as public and private sector representatives.

This training supports women’s economic empowerment by teaching high-quality VCO production techniques, with participants now able to supply their products to Kumul Organics. This partnership highlights LGP’s mission to foster women’s leadership across the value chain, from agriculture to business.

The Director of Kumul Organics, Ms Tina Manamb, emphasized the power of partnerships.

“True business success is built on solid partnerships and the commitment to work toward shared goals. We believe in the power of community and hard work. USAID PNG LGP has enabled us to connect with inspiring women who are ready to turn potential into impact. Let’s focus on scaling up, meeting demand, and proving that rural women can lead in the marketplace.”

USAID PNG LGP, Deputy Chief of Party, Mr Jordan Bulo said they were proud to support economic empowerment of women.

“We’re committed to creating sustainable livelihoods by equipping women with the skills and support they need to thrive. This Virgin Coconut Oil training is just one way we are investing in local communities. Together with Kumul Organics, we are driving meaningful change by ensuring women have access to economic opportunities, fostering a stronger, more resilient future for Madang Province and beyond,” he added.

The program also included insights from Madang’s Business Development Officer, Emmanuel Mu, who encouraged participants to pursue business registration and cooperative societies for enhanced support.

This training marks a significant step in USAID PNG LGP’s commitment to equipping rural women with skills for economic sustainability and positive community impact.
